BENGALURU: The III Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court on Monday remanded Parshuram Waghmore, the suspect who allegedly pulled the triiger on journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh, to judicial custody till Wednesday.

Waghmore was produced before the court as his 14-day police custody ended on Monday. The SIT officials produced Waghmore before the magistrate and did not request for the extension of his police custody and submitted an application to remand him in judicial custody. According to a source in the SIT, the team has extracted all the necessary information required for the investigation from Waghmore and did not seek his custody. Based on the developments, the SIT may seek his custody again, the source said.

Waghmore, who hails from Sindagi in Vijayapura district, was arrested from his house on June 12, after SIT got a tip-off of his involvement in Gauri’s murder.

While some SIT sources said that Waghmore pulled the trigger on Gauri, other officials did not confirm his role but maintained that he was involved in the murder.

However, it is learnt that Waghmore has confessed before the SIT officials that he was the one who shot dead Gauri in front of her residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on September 5, 2017.

Following the court orders, Waghmore was taken to Parappana Agrahara central prison. The court will hear his case along with four other accused in the case – Amol Kale alias Bhaisaab, Sujeet Kumar alias Praveen, Amit Degwekar alias Pradeep Mahajan and Manohar Yavade alias Manoj, on Wednesday.
