Q: If you think the damaged cobblestones are the handiwork of miscreants, why haven't you taken any action ?
A: We have asked the officials concerned to examine the CCTV footage on the street. Except for one or two damaged cobblestones, the rest of the road is in perfect condition. We have directed the officials to immediately fix the damaged ones. If the damage is due to poor quality work, we will withhold the payment of the contractor.
Q: People don’t seem happy about the recent tender invited to water wash and guard the street.
A: There is a misconception that we will hand over the street to private players. How can we do that ? Tenders were invited only to water wash the street and provide it security. We have already convinced some people on this and will convince others too.
Q: Will traffic be banned on Church Street ?
A: Unlike Commercial Street, which is a 100 per cent commercial area, there are many residential houses on Church Street. So we cannot entirely ban the movement of vehicles here. But we can explore the option of doing it selectively on special occasions after consulting the business outlets and citizens.
