Hyderabad: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced lecture-based modules for bridge courses in subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics, a move that has been welcomed by experts.
The bridge courses will cover typical weaknesses of students in science at the 10+2 level. According to AICTE, these bridge courses will be taught after the completion of the three-week induction programme.
It is proposed that besides other subjects bridge courses should be taught for the rest of the semester. The modules have been prepared as interactive sessions between students and instructors. At the end of the discussion, the teacher may hold a test to understand how much the students have grasped.
Content from the Internet has been adopted to make the modules more illustrative. “It's a good move by the AICTE and will help students gain knowledge and boost their confidence levels, resulting in improvement in the quality of education,” said Dr Srini Bhupalam, president, All India Federation of Self-Financing Technical Institutes.
Education expert Prof. Venkata Gaddam Reddy said the expectation is to conduct these bridge courses along with their regular semester coursework. “The universities have to be very creative to accommodate approximately 70 hours lectures into regular the curriculum,” Prof. Gaddam Reddy said.
