Crescent moon sighted, Id-ul-Fitr today

Accordingly, Id prayers will be offered in all idgahs and major masjids across the country, depending on local timings.

Hyderabad: The Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee on Sunday confirmed that Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday after sighting the crescent moon from atop the Hussaini Building at Moazzam Jahi Market in Hyderabad.

Accordingly, Id prayers will be offered in all idgahs and major masjids across the country, depending on local timings.

Id-ul-Fitr is a celebration of the rewards promised by Allah for a month full of fasting, piety, prayers, perseverance, charity and abstinence. Through Ramzan, imams who led prayers in every masjid made special supplications for peace and communal harmony in the face of growing intolerance and Islamophobia not only in the country but also across the world. With attacks on Muslims becoming more commonplace, most of the younger members of the community were becoming increasingly restless.

However, community elders emphasise that the festival Id was for celebrations, not worrying.

Muslims told to donate wheat to poor
With the sighting of the crescent moon, Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday. With attacks on Muslims across the couuntry, elders emphasise that Id was for celebrations, not worrying.

“I am not scared of my personal safety living in Hyderabad. I am more worried about the country becoming immune to increasing lawlessness. Lynching cases are now turning into statistics, instead of leaving us horrified. I am worried about the future of the country. Where are we headed?” asked Md Tanveer Siddiqui, a student.

All Muslims who can afford to do so are required to donate Sadqa-e-Fitra — at least 2.5 kg of wheat for each member of the household, be it a newborn or the elderly — before Id prayers. This ensures that even the poor do not have to worry about food on the day and enjoy the festival.

In Hyderabad, extensive arrangements have been made at Idgahs:
Idgah Mir Alam at 10 am, Idgah Madannapet at 9.30 am, Idgah Bilali at Masab Tank at 7.40 am, Idgah Qutb Shahi Golconda at 9.45 am, Idgah Sanathnagar at 9 am, Shahi Masjid at Public Garden at 9.30 am, Macca Masjid at 10 am.
