Chinnari case: Former MLA had big role in rescue operation

KLR said that on Saturday he got word from the administration to help them.

Hyderabad: Kichannagari Laxma Reddy (KLR) former MLA and ex-chairman of KLR Industries, played a major role in retrieving Chinnari’s body. KLR said that on Saturday he got word from the administration to help them.

After reaching the spot he got measurements of the borewell. It was found that the person who dug the well dug it with a diameter of around 9 inch till 40 feet and later with around 6.5 inch diameter for around 450 feet. The casing pipe was lowered till 40 feet.

“After checking the borewell measurements we asked the parents to get Chinnari’s clothes to assess her body size. Measuring her blouse, it was found her size from shoulder to shoulder was 8 inches. With that we concluded the baby could be stuck at 40 feet deep and cannot go beyond as size decreases after that,” he said. Later, a parallel pit was dug and after reaching 40 feet the pit was linked to the borewell, but there was no trace of the child. Knowing that the motor was pulled out they suspected that as the motor is around 6 feet wide, while being pulled out, it could have pierced through the baby’s body, due to which the body would have got cut into pieces and could have gone further deeper.

“After this it was clear that the baby could be dead and there was no chance of retrieving the body intact. It was painful to convince her parents to use this method to retrieve the body,” KLR said. Since the well was abandoned due to mud caving in the well’s depth was around 260 feet. Later, using a catcher (manually operated device fitted to a cable to hold objects in borewells) and a packer (to avoid mud caving in), pipes to pump in air were lowered in.

“Due to this the baby got covered with debris and when we started flushing water came first followed by mud and then her clothes and her body in pieces,” he said.
