25-day countdown for international yoga day begins in city today

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will kick-off a final 25-day global countdown for the international yoga day on June 21 with thousands of practitioners and enthusiasts expected to take part in an early morning event at the Parade Ground on Saturday morning.

Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan will be the chief guest at the event scheduled to begin at 5.30 am, Union minister G. Kishan Reddy announced here on Friday. Also invited to the event are Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, health minister T. Harish Rao, among others, he said.

Kishan Reddy told reporters that the event will see in addition to film personalities, representation from 108 yoga institutes along with students and government employees. “For the first time, we will have 1,000 artistes from various cultural troupes taking part”, he said.

He called on people from all walks of life to join the 25-day countdown kick-off on Saturday.

Union minister for Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal said that yoga led to a holistic health and well-being. “Yoga binds us all and dissolves barriers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts led to yoga being a part of international activity with the launch of the International Yoga Day, he said.
