Minister inaugurates Suchitwa meet.

Kozhikode: Only through unanimous efforts of the local self-government bodies can Kozhikode be made a zero-waste district, said the labor and excise minister T.P. Ramakrishnan. Though Kerala tops the country for its health rates, there is still an increment in the entry of new diseases.

Proper and scientific disposal of wastes is the only method to prevent this, said the minister while he was inaugurating the Suchitwa conference which was conducted to evaluate the progress in cleaning activities. The government intends to bring in different departments together and conduct cleaning activities a year.

The panchayat and the health caution committee should also put in their efforts. The programme which took place in the planning office conference hall was presided over by Babu Parassery, district panchayat president. District collector Siram Sambasiva Rao also attended.

The conference which aims to take measures on waste management, water conservation, and public health protection will conduct meeting on every 25th in the presence of the minister and other officials.

The cleanliness conference will begin the procedures to formulate MCF and MRF missions as a part of the zero waste programme of the Swachh Bharat mission. The cleanliness mission will be made into practice with the support of the local self-government bodies.

The reports on the various pre-monsoon cleanliness activities that were submitted by the local self-government bodies, municipalities and corporations were evaluated. Discussions on the new waste disposal methods and the progress of the waste disposal plants and public toilets were also held.
