Netizens invite Ivanka Trump, PM Modi for better roads
Hyderabad: Some citizens have taken to social media to protest the state of roads in the capital, and are inviting Ms Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Hyderabad again.
The netizens want them to drive around the city, hoping that the city roads would get better and the potholes will be fixed before the monsoon.
The reference was to the roads being repaired and the city spruced up for their visit for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in the city in 2017.
The trigger for the tweets was Ms Trump’s message to Mr Modi upon his reelection, “Congratulations PM Narendra Modi on a great Victory! Exciting times ahead for the wonderful people of India,” she wrote.
The Twitter handle of Naveen replied, “Thank you from KCR fans, please visit our Karimnagar, we need good roads, if you visit once they will make the roads beautiful (sic).”
There was another tweet in February by social activist Vijay Gopal, “Hey there Ivanka Trump, when are you visiting Hyderabad city again? Do visit Kukatpally when you do please, our GHMC lay down roads with high diligence when you visit the city, please let us know so we can look forward to it.”
The grouse of the netizens is that the roads have been ignored since Ms Trump’s visit.
Mr N. Kiran Kumar, a traffic volunteer, said, “Whenever we request authorities to fix the pothole ridden roads, they do not bother and several of our written representations also go in vain. That is the reason some of the residents have taken up the task and are filling the potholes.”
