Hyderabad: Officers told to finish road restoration works by June 5

Heads of the various departments complimented officials for their participation in the smooth conduct of Parliamentary elections in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Ahead of the monsoon, GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore on Saturday instructed officials and contractors to stop all road digging work by May 31, and restore city roads by June 5.

He also directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials to complete the manhole repairs and raise the manholes to the level of the road surface by June 5.

Mr Kishore held a review meeting and deputed one official from each department as nodal officer and attached them to the GHMC’s disaster wing in an effort to enable them to face the monsoon effectively and act appropriately during crises. He asked the officials to complete road repairs at the earliest and to identify low-lying areas beforehand for swift action during heavy rainfall. Additionally, he asked officials to pull down the hoardings in metro corridors.

Heads of the various departments complimented officials for their participation in the smooth conduct of Parliamentary elections in Hyderabad. Subsequently, the authorities went on to discuss the measures to be adopted in order to avoid causing inconvenience to citizens and to ensure that effective relief operations are taken up during the monsoon.

This apart, Mr Kishore held a review meeting with officials from the urban biodiversity wing on the implementation of the Haritha Haram programme.

He instructed the officials to prepare a ward-wise plantation action plan for 150 wards.

Because space is a constraint, the GHMC is drawing up an action plan for plantations worth Rs 1.5 crore instead of Rs 3 crore as was proposed by the government.

He instructed UBD officials, along with deputy commissioners, to conduct a meeting with ward members and residential welfare associations to identify their requirements of saplings and to identify the number of institutions, temples, mosques, churches, open spaces, and parks where plantation can be taken up.

He asked them to submit a detailed report of the same in a couple of days. “Officials must maintain a record of the distribution of saplings and obtain signatures of those to whom saplings are given,” he added.
