Chennai: Sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau seized a huge quantity of Pseudoephedrine under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) and arrested four men in the city on May 20. Further investigations with them led to the arrest of the main accused on Friday morning.
According to sources, nearly, 25 kg of Pseudoephedrine was seized from them. “After the four were arrested, they were taken to Delhi and Mumbai for inquiry. During interrogation, they revealed the identity of their kingpin, who was arrested in Chennai on Friday,” sources said.
It is said that the kingpin was involved in smuggling of Pseudoephedrine from India to Malaysia. A 32-year-old resident of Mylapore, the accused tried to escape when officials arrived, but the sleuths managed to nab him. Following his arrest, the NCB team found 49.5 kg of Pseudoephedrine from a godown located at Choolaimedu. The substance was allegedly kept to be smuggled out to Malaysia in concealment.
Similarly, a Rajasthan man was arrested for allegedly possessing 500 grams of heroin worth more than `50 lakh in Purasawalkam, NCB officials said today.
The arrested identified as Rajaram Vishnu (32) hailing from Rajasthan was suspected member of an international narcotic drug cartel active in several places in India. Recently, he came to supply a huge consignment of drugs in Chennai. Based on a specific tip-off, NCB, Chennai, laid a trap and arrested the man. 500 grams of heroin was taken from the accused and further investigations are on.
