Auto driver’s death: lookout for 2 assailants
Coimbatore: Police have launched a search for two miscreants in connection with the murder of a 56-year-old auto driver near Rathinapuri in Coimbatore, who was allegedly assaulted to death.
According to police, Raju, an auto driver residing at Rathinapuri-Subathaal layout, had two days back, noticed a duo belonging to the same area, Saravanan (30) and Manikandan (35), making attempt to steal cash from the shirt pocket of man lying on the road in a drunken state.
Raju raised alarm and questioned them for their behaviour. Following a heated verbal quarrel the duo attacked Raju with a huge wooden block, causing serious head injury to the auto driver. Raju fell reportedly unconscious and was seen in a pool of blood. Motorists passing that stretch rescued and admitted him to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital here.
On information, the Rathinapuri police rushed to the hospital and enquired Raju; receiving a complaint from him, police launched a search for the duo.
On Friday night Raju died without responding to the treatment. Rathinapuri police lodged a murder case against the duo and started further investigations.
