Kerala: Rule changed for hiring teachers

The amendment was brought out as some aspirants pointed out the anomalies.

Thiruvananthapuram: The State government has amended the minimum qualification norms for appointment of LP and UP school teachers. Earlier, only those who studied Malayalam as first or second language for SSLC were eligible in Malayalam medium schools. This norm was introduced in the order that unified the qualification of teachers in aided and government schools.

The order issued by General Education Joint Secretary H. Najeeb said that there are many schools in Kerala that followed Central syllabus. The students who attended them do not study Malayalam at the secondary or higher secondary level. However, they learn Malayalam at the degree, higher secondary or training college level.

The present order made it clear that those teachers who did not study Malayalam in schools, but studied it later are eligible for appointment in Malayalam medium UP and LP schools. The rules in the KER will be amended, it said. The amendment was brought out as some aspirants pointed out the anomalies to the notice of the director of public instruction who referred the matter to the government.
