Free WiFi for 8 more railway stations in Kerala

The RailWire is going to launch another project titled KESWAN Project (Kerala State Wide Area Network).

KOCHI: Railwire, an initiative of Railtel which is the telecommunication wing of Indian Railways, is set to provide free WiFi facility in eight more railway stations in the state apart from the five stations where it is already available. Ernakulam South (Ernakulam Junction), Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kollam Junction are the stations where the free WiFi facility is already available. A Railtel official said that the WiFi facility will also come soon at Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Palakkad Junction, Kannur, Shoranur Junction, Kanhangad, Thiruvalla and Vadakara.

“The Railwire Wi-Fi is fast and it has a simple OTP verification. It is being given in collaboration with Google. Over 400 railway stations across the country are covered for the service initially as part of the Prime Minister’s Digital India Initiative. Ernakulam Junction is the first station to get the facility in Southern Railway. We estimate 25,000 people using the RailWire Wi-Fi in Ernakulam Junction in a 24-hour period,” said Sooraj Raveendran, an official of Railwire adding most number of users log in to the network during morning.

The RailWire is going to launch another project titled KESWAN Project (Kerala State Wide Area Network). The aim of the project is to link all government offices with high speed Internet. “The RailTel will provide high-speed internet facility to all government offices including police stations through the network and video conferencing can be done for public service and administration,” he said.
