All ears, KT Rama Rao gets smile on 85-year-old woman face

Mr Rao escorted 85-year-old Seshanavaratnam to the dias at a Mana Nagaram meeting, and assured solution to her problem as soon as possible.

Hyderabad: An 85-year-old woman, Ms Seshanavaratnam, went back smiling after minister K.T. Rama Rao instructed officials to personally look into her problems.

Ms Seshanavaratnam, a resident of MIG 62/4 in KPHB Colony, had complained about the danger posed by the huge kitchen that a restaurant was operating below their house.

She said she had already approached the GHMC staff said the eatery lacked a fire no-objection certificate. Apart from the danger it posed, she could not bear the heat from the kitchen, she said.

Mr Rao escorted her to the dias at a Mana Nagaram meeting, and gave her a patient hearing. He directed zonal commissioner Harichandana Dasari to look into the issue and address it as soon as possible. He later instructed his staff to drop Ms Seshanavaratnam at her home.

When Ms Vedavathi of Devinagar, Kukatpally, complained that drainage had submerged their colony due to the closure of Tumu kaluva that connects Nallacheruvu, the minister directed GHMC officials either to acquire the Tumu kaluva or to solve the issue amicably by talking to colony residents and the owners of the land through which it passes.

When Mr Laxma Reddy from KPHB Colony said saplings planted in three open spaces during

Haritha Haram had withered, the minister assured that the open spaces would be converted into parks. Speaking at the third edition of Mana Nagaram, a public interaction session, at Nizampet, Kukatpally, the minister sought people’s participation in transforming Hyderabad into a global city.

He cited the recent removal of blankets and sleeping mats from a storm water drain at and appealed to the citizens to be responsible and sensitive towards civic issues.
