IRCTC's luxury flagship Southern Jewels' launched
CHENNAI: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will be launching ‘Southern Jewels,’ one luxury circuit of their flagship luxury Maharajas Express on July 1.
The train will cover places in South and Western India including Chettinad, Mahabalipuram, Mysore, Hampi and Goa, said officials, L Ravikumar, additional general manager, and SS Jagannathan, general manager, in a press conference on Thursday.
They will cater to the need of domestic population during the monsoon, and the regular trips will start from September.
The Maharajas Express was launched in 2010 and this year, two of its circuits — Southern Jewels and Southern Sojourn are being launched.
The Southern Jewels will start from Thiruvananthapuram on July 1 and will terminate at Mumbai after a trip of eight days and seven nights.
At each destination, guests aboard will be taken for sightseeing and tours to places of cultural and traditional importance.
The 23-coach long Maharajas Express has lounges, restaurants, cabins with beds, filtration plant, bar and dining spaces for passengers and can accommodate 88 guests on board.
As part of the monsoon offer, IRCTC is offering discounts on twin sharing rooms. Part journey has also been introduced to attract customers.
