Hyderabad: Security checks overlooked at stations
Hyderabad: Whenever Intelligence agencies sound an alert, police officials rush to Secunderabad railway station and ramp up security for a few days.
But there are no security measures at MMTS stations. Entry into the Secunderabad station from the MMTS platform is relatively easy.
Except for main stations, the others do not have Railway Protection Force or Government Railway Police personnel. These stations do not even have doorframe metal detectors.
There are no CCTV cameras at some MMTS stations and no policing either.
Software professional K. Anil Kumar said passengers were being robbed when travelling on MMTS trains. Most of them do not approach the police due to the unhelpful attitude of the cops .
“The MMTS from Falaknuma to Lingampally traverses three railway police stations - Hyderabad, Kacheguda and Secunderabad,” he said. Passengers recently caught a man who had snatched a chain from a woman. “We informed a policeman at Jamia Osmania station but he replied that it was not his jurisdiction and his duty was over. Meanwhile, the chain snatcher escaped but we had recovered the gold chain from him,” Mr Kumar said.
Mr J. Rammohan, another techie, said, “During festivals and special events, police check passengers at major stations but not at MMTS stations. These stations have become havens for drug peddlers and smugglers.”
