Water released for second crop

Sridhar Reddy holds Praja Bata in Gayatri Nagar, lambasts NMC staff for poor sanitation.

Nellore: Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy released water through Vallur canal for the second crop at 6 pm on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sridhar Reddy said, "The farmers of Nellore rural had waged a fight for about 15 days for irrigation water for their second crop. They had been to the irrigation office for six times, and were forced to stage dharna in rain for the irrigation water. Because of those struggles the water is being released at last."

Though the officials are claiming that they are releasing water from Somasila for the second crop, when it comes to the implementation stage, it is not happening, he added. Mr Sridhar Reddy organised the 'Praja Bata' programme in Gayatri Nagar and Police Colony in 28th division on Wednesday.

The local residents had complained about the poor sanitary situation, non-availability of street lights, teasing by the drunkards etc., to the local MLA.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sridhar Reddy expressed his ire over the Nellore Municipal Corporation officials on the poor sanitation in the area. He demanded that the NMC organise special sanitation drive immediately and also to set up street lights.

He warned them that he would visit the area in a couple of days and if the situation remains the same, he would not take it lightly. He said that the alarming sanitary situation in the city could be due to shortage of staff or poor coordination among the officials. "As an opposition MLA, I will focus specially on the improvement of sanitation and declare one action plan."

He urged the people to extend their cooperation to improve the sanitation in the area. "Only when the people are also partners in the maintenance of sanitation, then only Swachh Bharat, Swachh Andhra and Swachh Nellore will be realised. Otherwise, it will not be possible only with the NMC officials and sanitary staff. The officials should involve the people above politics and make them partners in Swachh Bharat Mission."

Bhimaneni Murahari, Narasimhaiah Mudiraj, Shyam Singh, Bhaskar, Tanuja Reddy, Venkateswarlu, Chekkasai Sunil and others participated along with the rural MLA.
