Nizamabad highway tragedy: Rash driving claims lives of 5 on NH 44
Nizamabad: Five persons, including three teenagers, were killed at Tekrial in Kamareddy mandal on NH 44 on Wednesday. The accident occurred when the car in which they were traveling tried to overtake a lorry at a junction, from the left. The lorry rammed the car, lost control and both vehicles then rammed another lorry.
The dead are Gade Praveen, 40, his daughter Gade Nikhita, 17, son Gade Bharat, 15, of Velmal village in Nandipet mandal and Lakshman, 40 and his son Harshit, 17, of Aloor village in Armoor mandal. According to sources, Praveen and Lakshman were coming to Hyderabad along with their children to tour colleges for admissions.
According to officials, Praveeen decided to drop son Bharat off at their relatives place in Kamareddy and had taken a right turn by overtaking a speeding lorry near the Kamareddy bypass road. The lorry driver, who was also moving at high speed lost control and rammed the car.
The smaller vehicle was then dragged and crushed between both lorries. All the five persons in the car died on the spot. The Maruti Alto was completely crushed and traffic was disrupted along the NH-44 for a while.
Speaking to DC, SP R. Prathap Reddy said the overtaking manoeuvre by the car and the speeding lorries led to the accident. CCTV footage (on the right) clearly shows how a perfect storm of offences caused the deadly accident.
Kamareddy DSP A. Bhaskar said. Meanwhile, Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Government whip Gampa Govardhan, incharge SP R. Prathap Reddy visited the accident site.
