Hyderabad: Bread sales dip over fear of chemicals
It has also been found that several bakeries in the city are seeing customers return their packets of bread.
Hyderabad: Sales of bread registered a 20 per cent dip and over 30 samples have been lifted by the Telangana Food and Safety Department in the city for quality testing.
The sales dip follows a report from the Centre for Science and Environment saying that bread contains carcinogenic chemicals like potassium bromate and potassium iodate used for treating flour.
It has also been found that several bakeries in the city are seeing customers return their packets of bread. Amjad Ali, a bakery owner said: “We have decided to reduce production for a few days as the returned products point to fears of the people.”
