Hearing, speech impaired score well: Student

Her elder daughter S. Bagyalakshmi is deaf and mute and studies at LFC School for Deaf in Chennai.

Chennai: Bhuvaneswari, who works as a domestic help and also lone bread winner of her family is struggling to make her ends met with the meagre income she earns, but she is determined to let her two daughters study whatever they
wanted to.

Her elder daughter S. Bagyalakshmi is deaf and mute and studies at LFC School for Deaf in Chennai. She scored 343 out of 400 and secured second rank among deaf students.

She wants to study business maths and join the banking sector. Her teachers said she is one of their bright students and she is regular to classes in the last 10 years.

Bhuvaneswari earns a monthly income of Rs 4,000, from which she has to pay Rs 3,000 towards rent and electricity bill. “My elder sister who lives nearby helps me with the ration and other things. My daughters school teachers also very helpful,” Bhuvaneswari said. She had studied up to eighth class.

Her husband Selvam, a construction labourer, deserted his familya few years ago. Since then she is taking care of her two daughters. Her younger daughter Rajalakshmi, a normal child, has entered plus two this year. “My younger daughter wants to study computers,” she said.

Riya of Bengaluru is the school topper in LFC School with a score of 350 out of 400. But as she chose English subject, she is not eligible for rank. She comes from a family where all are hearing impaired.

She wants to study engineering like her brother Kevin K. Paul, who is also hearing impaired. He is pursuing his mechanical engineering in Kalasalingam University. Her father Eldo Paul works in a private company in Bengaluru.
