NEW DELHI: Stressing that no child in conflict with law will be handcuffed/chained or sent to jail or lock-up, the draft rules of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 released on Wednesday by the Women and Child Development ministry proposes that all tobacco products and intoxicating liquor should carry a “precautionary caution” for children.
According to the proposed rules, all tobacco products and intoxicating liquor must display that “giving or selling intoxicating liquor or tobacco products to a child is a punishable crime with up to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of up to one lakh rupees”.
The draft also say that all shops selling intoxicating products must also display at a prominent place a message on their shop that giving or selling intoxicating liquor or tobacco products to a child is a punishable crime.
According to the draft, children in conflict with law should not be handcuffed or sent to jail and that there shall be no barriers, such as witness boxes or bars.
