Class 10th results: Velammal school bags four state ranks

Last year 1.15 lakh students secured 100 out of 100 in science.

Chennai: Students and school authorities of Velammal higher secondary school shared an ecstatic moment on Wednesday after class 10 results were announced, as it is the only city school to have produced four state rankers.

Missing out two marks in Tamil and English, S. Niranjan bagged state second by scoring 498 marks. Emphasising on stress-free and planned revision, he spoke about the importance of linking subjective knowledge in practical life.

Aiming to become a pilot, he attributes his success to his parents. Talking to DC, his father, Shankar said his son was very casual and took no extra efforts to achieve the distinction. “The school management was so determined that they helped him revise during floods through telephone”, he said.

Parents of E. Chinduja, who bagged state third, are not surprised as her result was an expected one. A brilliant student from childhood, Chinduja bagged state third by securing 497 marks. “I had practiced for over three hours every day. My elder sister who is now an MBBS student inspires me to become a doctor,” she added. She feels that balance in all activities is most essential during preparation. Chinduja had scored centum in Maths, Science and Social Science and obtained 98 marks in Tamil.

Focus and strong will are important to achieve the state rank, said Dijesh R. who also bagged the state third position. Studying for long hours helped me grasp knowledge in subjects with greater ease, he added. He also revealed that he had to reluctantly sacrifice his sport and extra-curricular activities to spare time for preparation.

Sanjana B, state third rank holder with 497 marks, told DC she was tension free while preparing for exams. “I had no fixed pattern. I just believed in continuous preparation,” she said. She had scored 99 in English and Tamil while securing centum in Maths, science and social studies.
