Class 10th results: 95 per cent pass in Chennai schools
Chennai: Schools run by the Greater Chennai Corporation emerged successful in the SSLC board results announced Wednesday with a 95 per cent pass rate, said Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy.
This, Duraisamy said, represented a 2.85 per cent increase over last year's performance. Pass percentage of boys and girls increased significantly with boys achieving 92.54 per cent and girls 96.95, which is a 3.6 and 1.98 per cent increase over the performance achieved in 2015.
Of the 70 schools which had students appearing for the exams, 19 achieved a 100 per cent pass rate. Warmly received by the Mayor, the headmasters of these schools were each presented with a cash token of Rs 1 lakh by Duraisamy.
Attributing the greater pass percent to the incentives provided by the local body to its students, educationist P.B. Prince Gajendra Babu said.
"Besides the food and other welfare schemes on offer, the involvement of various social agencies which lend the corporation a helping hand is also a big reason."
