Thrissur: Two held for twin murder in gang war

Police said that the two men in custody had told them that the killer gang was planning to murder a total of four persons on Wednesday.

Thrissur: Two youths were picked up by police here in connection with the murder of two youths early on Wednesday at Mundur here.

Shyam, 24, of Parava-ttani and Christo, 25, of Mundatikode were hacked to death by members of their rival gang belonging to a ganja mafia at Mundur at 12.45 am on Wednesday.

A team of cops led by assistant commissioner Biju Raj is investigating the murder that occurred as a part of the gang war between ganja mafia members in Mundur region.

Sources in police said that as many as five to six members of a gang were part of the twin murder. The plan was to throw country bombs at the duo who were travelling on a bike at midnight but the bombs didn’t explode.

The murderers had first hit the bike on which the victims were travelling with a tipper lorry and then attacked them with machetes after they fell on the road from the bike.

The murder was in retaliation to the rival ganja gang tipping off excise departments about the smuggling of contraband and consequent arrest of carriers in Thrissur earlier this month.

Police said that the two men in custody had told them that the killer gang was planning to murder a total of four persons on Wednesday, but withdrew from it after killing the duo as the situation was not favourable.
