Rajahmundry: Water plants inspected, errant units ordered shut

The owners of the establishment were warned of strict action if they failed to take permission.

Rajahmundry: Vigilance and enforcement authorities on Thursday raided mineral water plants and seized six of them for not having requisite permission.

The authorities, led by SP Reddy Gangadhara Rao, inspected 11 water plants located at V.L. Puram Junction, Veera-bhadrapuram, Sai Durga Nagar, Lala Cheruvu Housing Board Colony, Balajipeta, Pidimgoyyi and other areas in the city limits. Several units were found to be operating without having taken necessary permissions.

Among the violations found by the erring establishments were not taking permissions from the ground water department, ISO certification, licence from Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and permission from the labour department and seized six of them and warned their owners óf criminal cases to be booked against them if they failed to get requisite permissions.

The authorities inspected Sapphire Water Plant at Pidimgoyyi gram panchayat and found one litre and 500 ml bottles with no MRP on the label. Accordingly, a case was booked under the provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on its owner.
