Hyderabad: Attorney caught accepting bribe

The quarrel ended with case being filed by the senior citizen and Ms Kavya Reddy at Rajendranagar police station (Cr No. 633/2018).

Hyderabad: Assistant public prosecutor K. Prasanna Lakshmi, serving at the XIV Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Rajendranagar, was caught red-handed by the ACB within the court premises while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. She allegedly demanded the money for submitting a building permission document in the court as evidence.

According to the ACB, a 60-yera-old woman and her granddaughter S. Kavya Reddy complained that they were abused by their neighbour for constructing a compound wall last year. The quarrel ended with case being filed by the senior citizen and Ms Kavya Reddy at Rajendranagar police station (Cr No. 633/2018).

When the matter came to trial, the opposite party’s lawyer claimed that complaint was false and the complainants had no permission to construct the compound wall. Mr Kavya Reddy refuted the claim and assured that she would submit the construction permission issued by the gram panchayat.

Ms Lakshmi, who also holds additional charge at the II Special Magistrate Court at Rajendranagar, initially demanded Rs 20,000 from Kavya Reddy to submit the certificate but brought down the demand to Rs 15,000.

When the ACB sleuths, on the basis of a complaint, descended on her office, Ms Lakshmi began shouting that no bribe had been taken. When the draw at her desk was checked, the ACB personnel found Rs 15,000.

Ms Lakshmi was arrested and produced before the special court for ACB cases.
