Tirupati: A woman and her daughter were grievously injured after a branch of tree fell on them while they were trekking to the abode of Lord Venkateswara through Srivari Mettu footpath in Tirumala on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Gurram Lakshmi, 36, and her 10-year-old daughter, Gurram Jyothsna hailing from Manubolu mandal in Nellore district.

The incident took place at 5 pm on Thursday, when the victims almost reached the hill top and were about to collect their luggage at the counter near Srivari Mettu entrance.

The victims were taken to TTD’s Aswini hospital in Tirumala. They were later shifted to S.V.R. Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati for better treatment.

Jyothsna sustained grievous injuries and her condition was said to be critical. Her mother Lakshmi was being treated at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the devotees expressed anger over the TTD officials for their negligence in removing dry branches from the trees all along the two trekking routes and across Tirumala as well.
