Women urged to take on social evils

ALAPPUZHA: 'Kudumbasree Mission should now be able to point fingers at the regressive practices, customs and superstitions prevalent in the society’, said food and civil supplies minister P. Thilothaman on Wednesday
Inaugurating 20th-anniversary celebrations of Kudumbasree Mission at the Carmel College of Engineering and Technology, Punnapra here, he pointed out that the history of Sabarimala temple and concept of Lord Shiva’s Ardhanareeswara still stand as classic examples of gender disparity in the society. By the two-decades-long tireless works of Kudumbasree, he said, had changed the society's concept of women and power.
"The Mission has helped women to ensure their sustainable development and economic advancements," Mr Thilothaman said. Daleema Jojo, vice-president, district panchayat presided over the event where filmmaker K. Madhu was the chief guest.
There will be arts events at Carmel Polytechnic Auditorium today. Finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac will inaugurate a seminar on Kudumbasree Democracy and Women Empowerment at 9:30 am at Raiban auditorium on Friday.
