Coimbatore: The 2017 ‘Jallikattu violence’ probe hearings seem to be in its final stages in Coimbatore. Retired judge of the Madras High Court, S Rajeswaran, who is appointed by the state government to inquire into the ‘jallikattu violence’ that rocked the state in January 2017 is in the textile city for the fifth time from Wednesday till Friday.
Addressing the media, on Wednesday morning, Mr. Rajeswaran said, “summons have been issued to six police officials to testify before the commission. No pressure will be put on individuals to appear for the hearing.”
When questioned on what direction the probe is heading towards, Mr. Rajeswaran stated that only half of the people have blamed the men in uniform for the violence. The remaining 50 per cent of the public has praised the police for the role they played.
“In Madurai as many as 800 persons have appeared before the appointed commission. Public has praised the role of police in Alanganallur protest,” he said.
He told media persons that the pieces of evidence relating to the violence that have been submitted are under scrutiny and the inquiry commission would further conduct its probe in Madurai and Chennai.
