Hyderabad: 7 education staff in soup for issuing bogus papers

7 staff from DEO's office were held for issuing bogus ETR certificates to 14 schools in the city.

Hyderabad: The Telangana School Education Department has suspended seven officials working in the Hyderabad District Educational Office (DEO) for issuing bogus Extension of Temporary Registration (ETR) certificates to 14 schools in the city.

“We have already registered criminal cases against 14 school managements,” Hyderabad DEO Venkata Narsamma said. “We have also registered police complaints against the officials concerned, the schools and further investigation is progressing,”she said.

Regional Joint Director (RJD) of school education Vijaya Laxmi said, “The state is seriously viewing the issuance of bogus ETRs to the schools. The ETRs have to be issued from the office of the RJD after thorough scrutiny. However, direct proceedings were done at the deputy district educational officer-level in this case’’.

The deputy DEOs and Telangana State Gazetted Head Masters’ Association (TSGHM) alleged at a press conference on Tuesday that ETRs were being issued from RJD and DEO offices without keeping them in the loop.

However, the allegations were strongly denied by Hyderabad DEO Venkata Narasamma saying that a deputy DEO had in fact recommended for ETR for a school which was just few metres away from a wine shop in Saidabad.

“I have only issued ETRs to six schools during my tenure so far. I also rejected ETRs for schools as they were not following norms. When we checked the documents regarding the issuance of ETRs, we found that there was no inward and outward entry in our official documents. We usually register each and every document we receive or pass from our office. The list of recognised schools will be uploaded on our official website,” said Hyderabad DEO Venkata Narasamma.
