Chennai luminaries to attend Tamil conference in Texas
“The 10th World Tamil Conference will be held in Chicago, US from July 1.The conference will be supported by the Tamil Nadu government,” revealed Ma.Foi. Pandiarajan, Minister for Tamil Language and Culture at an event organised in the city by Fetna.
Fetna (Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America), which promotes Tamil language and culture and brings together the Tamil community for whom 50 Tamil associations across North America function, announced its 31st annual Tamil conference on June 29, 30 and July 1 in Texas.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, “I am happy about the theme Heritage, Youth and Women and tagline Semmozhi Sirakka Seivom (Hail Tamil language) of Fetna’s 31st convention. UNESCO gave 14th place to Tamil as the most respected world language. We have to bring that to 10th position.
Singapore is the first country in the world to announce Tamil as its official language. Sri Lanka and others announced after Singapore. Similar to ‘Trinity School of Music’ for Western Music, we have to form a Tamil Cultural Centre. We’ve planned to develop a research portal. And government will help Fetna in all possible ways.” A MoU between the state government and Fetna was signed on the occasion.
According to Caldwell Velnambi, national coordinator of Fetna 2018, several guest speakers and artistes from across the world, including celebrities in the field of arts and music, business, medicine and leaders, have been invited. The guest list from Chennai includes MK. Stalin, Ma.Foi. Pandiarajan,
Gnanasambandan, VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan, director-actor Pandiarajan, actor Karthi, GV Prakash and composer Hiphop Tamizha.
