Bengaluru: 6-year-old son of garment workers drowns in sump
Bengaluru: In an unfortunate incident, a six-year-old boy drowned in a sump while playing outside his house in Harokyathanahalli on the city outskirts on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Gowtham, the younger son of Kumar Naik and Varadhamma. The incident happened when the boy’s parents had gone to work and Gowtham was playing alone.
The child used to stay at their neighbours house until his parents returned in the evening.
According to police, the couple worked at a garment factory and left for the work at around 8.30 am.
Around 11.30 am, Gowtham fell into the sump and drowned. As he was alone at the time of the incident, no one spotted him falling into the sump, the police said.
The police further said the locality has six houses and the residents used to draw water from a common sump. On Wednesday, someone by mistake kept the lid of the sump open after drawing water. Gowtham while playing slipped and died.
The incident came to light when another neighbour went to draw water and saw Gowtham inside. They info rmed Kumar who rushed home from his work before shifting Goutham to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances and are investigating.
