Hyderabad: Two days after killing his wife at his house in Tukaramgate, the suspect, who escaped from police, jumped into the Kanaka Durga Temple pond in Vijayawada to commit suicide. However, the man, P. Shiva Shankar, was pulled out of water by locals.
Tukaramgate police has placed him under custody in a hospital in Vijayawada. Shiva Shankar had strangled his wife on Sunday evening at his house.
Investigation official G. Ramesh who is the Station House Officer of Tukaramgate said that Shiva Shankar had run away from home soon after the murder.
“He went to Vijayawada to escape the police, and later he jumped into the pond to commit suicide. Some locals who saw him jumping rescued him and took him to a hospital. After the treatment is over, we would bring him to Hyderabad,” said the official.
Police suspect that constant quarrels between the couple led to the murder.
On Sunday evening, Shiva Shankar's wife P. Venkat Lakshmi, 30, was found dead inside their single-bedroom flat in Tukaramgate. Police said that she was strangled with an electric cable.
Police officials suspected that Shiva Shankar had planned the murder as he had left his seven-year-old daughter at his native place in Rajahmundry before coming to Hyderabad on the day of the murder.
