Radhakrishnan assault case verdict on Friday

Chennai: The I additional sessions court, Chennai, will pronounce verdict in the 13-year old ‘auditor’ Radhakrishnan assault case, in which Kanchi

Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswati, is a prime accused, on April 29. When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the judge, P. Rajamanickam,, said he will deliver the verdict on April 29. He directed all the accused to be present in the court on that date.

According to special public prosecutor, N. Vijayaraj, in 2002, Foreshore Estate police registered a case against Sri Jayendra Saraswati, Sundaresa Iyer, Raghu, Appu alias Krishnasamy, Kathiravan, Meenakshisundaram, Anand alias Ananda kumar, Lakshmanan, Bhoominathan, Kannan, China Kumar and Ravi Subramaniam.

Ravi Subramaniam turn ed approver. Appu and Kathiravan died. Sri Jayendra Saraswati was arrested on November 11, 2004, in connection with the Sankararaman murder case. While in custody, he was formally arrested in the Radhakrishnan assault case.

After a decade long legal battle, trial commenced in 2012. Over 50 prosec
ution witnesses were examined. On March 28, the pontiff who appeared before the court, submitted that police foisted the case against him.
