Visakhapatnam/ Vijayawada: A large number of candidates reached the district collectorate to submit their papers on Monday, the last day for filing nominations for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
Of the 24 applications for Vizag Parliamentary constituency, 19 were received by the returning officer on Monday. In Vijayawada offices of the returning officers were busy from the morning to evening on Monday, it being the last day for filing of nominations for the elections.
In many places, processions of candidates going to file their nomination papers threw traffic out of gear.
Similarly, seven candidates submitted applications for Anakapalle Parliamentary constituency and eight candidates filed papers for the Araku constituency the same day, taking the overall number of nominations to 14 and 13 respectively.
After receiving the nominations, district collector K. Bhaskar informed that the scrutiny would commence from Tuesday morning and the last date of withdrawal of candidature was March28. Polling would be held on 11 April.
Actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna’s daughter M Tejaswini submitted her nomination papers for Vizag Parliamentary constituency as a substitute from Telugu Desam. It was already known that her husband Sri Bharat had earlier filed nomination from same party.
Bandereddy Ramakrishna filed papers on behalf of the Jana Sena for the Machilipatnam LS seat. He will be taking on Vallabhaneni Bala Sowri of the YSRC, Gollu Krishna of the Congress, Gudivaka Angi Babu of the BJP and independent candidates Nadakuduti Naga Gayatri, G.V.S. Basava Rao,
Vijaya Lakshmi Calapaka and Yarlagadda Ramamohan Rao and also Surendra Babu Bavisetti of Praja Santhi Party.
CPI candidate Ch. Babu Rao filed his nomination papers for the Vijayawada Central Assembly seat.
