Thiruvananthapuram/Palakkad: There is no respite from the heatwave conditions in the state with more cases of sunstroke being reported from various places.
The heatstroke alert will continue till Thursday. The Indian Meteorology Department has predicted 3 to 4 degrees increase in temperature in many districts. The health department has made arrangements in hospitals for treating sunburn and sunstroke cases.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has asked online food delivery companies to ensure the protection of their employees.
The delivery boys travelling on two-wheelers should avoid black dress, it said and asked the companies to provide them rest time. The authorities have also instructed the traffic police to carry drinking water with them to avoid dehydration and use an umbrella for protection.
Shamili, 21, a sales executive at Pattancherry in Palakkad, who drove her scooter at noon on Monday, fainted due to sunburn. She was out in the open for an hour, according to officials at DMO office.
DMO K. P. Reetha said that such long exposure to sun at noon was risky. Two other incidents of sunburns were reported from Shornur and Thenkurissi on Monday, she added.
The victims were discharged from hospitals after first aid. On Monday and on March 15, the Integrated Rural Technology Centre (IRTC) at Mundur here had recorded 41 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in Palakkad this summer. In 2016, Malampuzha had recorded the highest temperature of 41.6 degrees. In the past two weeks, 17 people in the district have suffered sunburns.
