Notice on Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project

Dr Reddy said 35 per cent of the project work was completed and 85 per cent of the bills were taken up.

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court issued notices to the Telangana State government to explain the cost of the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project. The notice was issued on a petition filed by Congress leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy who claimed that Rs 2,400 crore of public funds had been lost due to the rise in the cost of motors and pumps.

Dr Reddy said 35 per cent of the project work was completed and 85 per cent of the bills were taken up. He said the government had spent an exorbitant amount on laying the foundation stone.

A bench led by Justice Bobde asked BHEL, which supplied the electro-mechanical equipment and provided technical support, what it would have cost if it had fixed the machines instead of handing them over to a third party. The case was adjourned to Tuesday.
