Kozhikode: Poll squads seize Rs 5 lakh

Kozhikode: The election flying squads on Monday seized over Rs 5 lakh unaccounted money during inspections in the district.

They caught Rs 1 lakh from Thiruvambadi assembly segment during a vehicle check and handed over to the income tax department for verification.

From the same constituency, a static surveillance team seized Rs 2,25,000 from a motorist and a flying squad Rs 1,76,710 from Kozhikode during another vehicle check.

"The big seizures were just in a day's inspection. We'll continue searches until the elections," district collector Sambasiva Rao said.

"The activities of the flying squads will get strengthened, engaging more units and forces." the district collector said.

"Those possessing money without proper documents will have to face legal consequences as we are on a strict mission to enforce the election norms," the district collector added.

They sent the money to the sub-treasury and informed the income tax department.
