Chennai: Man murdered for helping friend’s love marriage

The Chengalpattu Taluk police registered a case and sent his body to the Chengalpattu government hospital for post mortem.

Chennai: A 25-year-old college student was hacked to death in Chengalpattu on Sunday night for allegedly helping his friend’s lovemarriage.

According to sources, the deceased identified as Surya,25, was resident of BhajanaiKovil street in Chengalpattu and a law student.

Police said that they recovered Surya’s body from near a lake in Meleripakkam on Monday morning. Sources said the victim’s friend Karthick, 26 , hailing from the same village, fell in love with one Hemalatha, 20. The couple had been in a relationship for more than a year. Since Hemalatha’s family was strongly opposed to the alliance. they decided to get married against the wishes of both families and lived in Suriya’s house.

On Friday morning, the couple got married in Surya’s house and left the town, sources said. Furious over this marriage, Hemalatha’s brother Saravanan and uncle Azhagesan vandalised Surya’s house in Meleripakkam on Saturday.

They even threatened to kill him. The residents in the early hours of Monday spotted Surya lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police. Police said Surya’s neck and private parts were slashed.

Police launched a search for Saravanan and Azhagesan. Meanwhile, Surya’s family said they would not collect their’s son’s body until the killers were nabbed. Surya is survived by his pregnant wife Gayathri.
