Chennai: Kanimozhi, Tamilisai, Karti file nominations
Chennai: DMK leader M Kanimozhi, BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan, Congress' Karti Chidambaram were among prominent personalities who filed their papers Monday on the penultimate day of filing nominations for the April 18 Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Among others to file their nominations were former Union Minister and DMK leader A Raja, H Raja of the BJP, AIADMK leader M Thambidurai, BJP's CP Radhakrishnan, S Thirunavukkarasar of Congress and E V K S Elangovan (Congress), besides VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan.
After filing her papers, Kanimozhi, who will lock horns with BJP's Tamilisai Soundararajan in Thoothukudi, said "Thoothukudi is my choice because I have continuously worked there and know the situation there."
MNM’s Kameela Naasar, wife of south Indian actor Naasar, and AIADMK ally Puthiya Tamilagam founder K Krishnasamy also filed their nomination papers. The PT chief will fight under the AIADMK's two-leaves symbol.
BJP leader H Raja will take on Congress' Karti Chidambaram in Sivaganga constituency. "I am a resident of Kaaraikudi since my birth, so I have decided to fulfill the needs of the people and work to meet their expectations. I will not rule the constituency by sitting behind a glass door somewhere else," the BJP leader told reporters.
Karti insisted that the Congress-DMK alliance "is superior to any other political formation in TN. and will win all the 40 seats in TN and Puducherry" because people "are fed up with the fascist regime at the Centre and with the AIADMK government in the state that has become a proxy of the BJP".
Tuesday is the last date for filing nominations and scrutiny of the papers will take place on Wednesday. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 29.
