Chennai: Girl immolates self after poor performance in exam

Police said she sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and was later referred to the Killpack Medical college hospital.

Chennai: A class 10 student attempted suicide by immolating self at her house in Padalam, Maduranthagam on Monday evening.

The victim, Pooja, 15, screamed for help after immolating self. She was rushed to the Chengalpattu government hospital by her neighbours.

During the investigation, police found that the victim’s maths examination of class 10 went bad on Monday and due to which she was depressed.

According to police, the 15-year-old girl, resident of Padalam in Maduranthagam, was studying in class 10 at Padalam Government higher secondary school. She appeared for the maths examination on Monday morning. Sources said, after the exam, the girl started crying about her poor performance in the maths exam and since her parents were away at work she immolated self.

Police said she sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and was later referred to the Killpack Medical college hospital. The Chengalpattu Taluk Police registered a case and further investigations are underway.
