Kerala gets 33,775 smart classrooms
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has covered three-fourths of the Hi-Tech School project creating 33,775 smart classrooms. All classrooms of 2,967 schools now have a laptop, ceiling-mounted multimedia projector, projection screen / painted wall and sound system. They also have broadband connectivity and access to Samagra resource portal, said K. Anvar Sadath, who heads India’s most extensive ICT project in education.
More than half of classrooms in 961 schools have got Hi-Tech facilities. The KITE would also allocate Rs 1, 000 for the ceiling-mount kit for projectors and Rs 1, 500 for those opting for painted walls for the projection instead of a screen. The deployment of the ICT equipment was through a dedicated online monitoring mechanism through its regional offices in districts.
Malappuram tops in the number of hi-tech Classrooms so far, 3782, followed by Kozhikode, 3446, and Thrissur, 3085. Only those schools that satisfactorily completed the requisite preparatory works got the ICT equipment. “We have made arrangements for networking of classrooms to start from April first week. Multiple networking teams would work simultaneously in many districts to ensure its completion during the vacation,” he said. “Some have requested for extension of time for completing the preparatory works, and they are directed to update the status of their classrooms to the respective district co-ordinator of KITE on or before April 20.”
