Kerala: 11 days after, Liga Skromane still untraceable

Ms Skromane who had arrived here from Ireland was undergoing treatment for post-traumatic stress when she went missing on March 14.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 11 days after Latvian woman Liga Skromane, 33, went missing, the state police was yet to trace her until Sunday. Despite a reward of Rs 2 lakh being announced by state police chief, no credible information was available. Though people had called from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts with several speculations, there was no headway in the probe.

Ms Skromane who had arrived here from Ireland was undergoing treatment for post-traumatic stress when she went missing on March 14. The woman who did not turn up for her yoga class with Sister Ilze Skromane had taken an autorickshaw from Pothencode to Kovalam. “Though, earlier a body suspected to be that of the woman was found at Kulachal the family members confirmed that it was not her. The body had a tattoo on her hand and Liga did not have this,” said police officials.

Her husband Andrew Jordan who reached India had alleged a cold start to the inquiry. He accused that the police had not probed the case intensively for the first four days. He found out that even the officials of nearest police stations and local people were not unaware of a missing person in initial days. The family had first announced a reward denomination which was later increased by police.
