Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) started providing an Unique Digital Addressing Solution for Urban Dwellings (UDASUD) in the city where a metal plate will be installed subsequently at each house.
The geo-spatial based solution will provide digital door numbering system, navigation details and address location services. It also synchronises the property tax assessment and complete details of the property for smooth functioning of the VMC.
Usage charges will not be collected from the public, stated VMC additional commissioner Mr P. Arunbabu. He said that the VMC has given the project to the Zipper company which would provide the service free of cost to the corporation. He said the VMC would pay minimum amount for the door-to-door survey to the company.
After completing the project, the VMC would get revenue from the service too. He elaborated that every house would be provided with a zipper code along with a password. When the users open the link online from their mobile, tablet or PC, both Zipper company and the VMC would get their respective revenue share through the advertisements.
So far, Vijayawada has inorganic growth and navigation with door numbers is a big headache. The new system helps in easily changing or retrieving a new address at any time and it would navigate through online. The project has been taken up for 3 lakh assessments in the city as a pilot project.
Mr Arunbabu said that at present the company started providing zipper code by visiting door-to-door. He said that they would collect necessary data from every dwelling during the survey.
He said that they are providing Smart Code (Zipper Code) through stickers at the surveyed house, at present. It would be converted into metal sheets subsequently.
