Raghavendran's mom arrives in Brussels, brother refused entry to burns ward
Bengaluru: The younger brother of the missing Infosys employee in Brussels is struggling to gain access to a principal hospital where he can check if his missing brother, Raghavendran Ganeshan is among the patients admitted there.
Belgian authorities have restricted Chandrashekaran Ganeshan, the younger brother from entering the hospital quoting "procedures and protocols" which will take time for approval.
"The procedures and processes in Belgium will take some time. They have their own protocol and procedure and I think they are getting the particulars for approval for being able to allow access for the brother to visit people inside the hospital and identify Mr Ganeshan," said Ajay Agarwal, Consular Attache at the Indian Embassy in Belgium.
Raghavendran Ganeshan's anxious mother Annapoorni meanwhile arrived in Brussels on Friday and is with her younger son Chandrashekaran, both of them trying to get access into a hospital where a large number of patients have been admitted with burn injuries. "The hospital will not allow visitors especially to the burn wards for medical reasons and it is very difficult to get access to get to the ward," said an official from the embassy. But Chandrashekaran is being helped by his brother’s friends from Infosys there along with people from the Indian Embassy in Belgium. The last call of Raghavendran has been tracked to a metro rail in the Belgian capital, and apparently a status message of him being safe after the bomb went off at the Brussels Airport was also acknowledged by few of his friends. But the bomb that went off at the Metro station was after the time of that 'status message,' raising questions of where he could have been at the time the bomb went off.
Raghavendran has been missing since Tuesday after the deadly terror strikes that hit Brussels which left 31 dead and over 300 injured.
Stranded come home
242 Indians and 28 crew members, stranded following the terror attacks on airport and metro station in Brussels on Tuesday, were flown back to the country by a special aircraft on Friday. The ‘recovery’ flight 9W 1229 from Amsterdam landed in the national capital Friday morning. Jet Airways had earlier taken all its stranded passengers in Brussels to the Dutch capital by road. The special flight also carried onboard passengers who were bound for Mumbai as their flight was cancelled at the last minute due to a technical problem in the aircraft. “The flight 9W 1229 carrying 214 passengers, including 69 bound for Mumbai, along with 28 Jet Airways crew members landed at IGI airport at 5.10 a.m.” a Jet Airways spokesperson said.
