Karnataka Anti-Corruption Bureau: Up and running from next week
BENGALURU: The offices of the newly set up Anti-Corruption Bureau will be given police station status in all the districts. An order to this effect is expected to be passed in the coming week.
A meeting to discuss the issues related to formation of the ACB was held on Thursday and it is said that officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) will be posted in all the seven police ranges in the state - Southern Range (Mysuru), Western Range (Mangaluru), Eastern Range (Davangere), Central Range (Bengaluru), Northern Range (Belagavi), North Eastern Range (Kalaburagi) and the new range comprising Ballari, Raichar and Koppal, with Ballari as its headquarters.
An official who attended the meeting said that ACB police stations will be set up in each district of the state with a DySP heading each district. “They have to report to the SPs of their range. In the next week, an order will be passed according police station powers to ACB offices in all districts and people can approach the ACB offices in their districts to file any complaint under the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the official said.
Meanwhile, it was also decided that the Khanija Bhavan on Race Course Road will be the headquarters of ACB. “The top rung of the ACB - ADGP and IGP - will function from Khanija Bhavan and the ACB police station for Bengaluru Urban will also function from the same premises,” the official added. It is, however, learnt that setting up the ACB headquarters will take a few more days’ time, though the authorities are working to ensure that the office is functional from the first week of April.
