Vijayawada: Designs for the Assembly, High Court and Secretariat buildings in the Amaravati capital city were finalised by a six-member jury here on Friday. The designs of Maki Associates of Japan have been selected among the other designers Rogers Stirf Harbour Partners of United Kingdom and Vasthu Consultants of India.

The six-member jury, comprising Prof. Christopher Benninger as the chairman and members Prof. K.T. Ravindran (India), Prof. Erwin Viray (Japan), Prof. Suhaozkan (Turkey), Rajeev Seethi and Keshav Varma (India) unanimously selected the Japanese designs from among the three design expertise group consultants.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, announcing the jury’s decision, which was submitted in a sealed cover, said that the real capital city works have been initiated with the decision.

The state government had short-listed three best architecture designs from across the world and jury selected one after taking into consideration many aspects. However, the government would incorporate better plans and designs from the other two designs also.

The interior design plans would be taken from top-level reputed agencies. Mr Naidu said that the government would collect opinion from the public, especially colleges, universities, IITs and experts from all sections and incorporate their ideas into the capital designs to make the new capital city truly historic.
