Kaumudi will serve in the Central agency, which looks into counter-terrorism and other national security-related cases.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh cadre Indian Police Service officer Varun Sindhu Kul Kaumudi has been appointed as Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Kaumudi will serve in the Central agency, which looks into counter-terrorism and other national security-related cases, on deputation for a period of five years. The 1986-batch IPS officer is currently Additional Director General of Police (Provisioning and Logistics) in AP.

Andhra Chief Secretary Satya Prakash Tucker issued an order on Saturday relieving Kaumudi, a batch-topper, from the state service. Considered an upright officer, Kaumudi earlier served in the Central Bureau of Investigation on deputation and cracked the famous fodder scam case involving former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav.

As Inspector General in the Economic Offences wing of Crime Investigation Department in AP, he investigated the Satyam Computers scandal and secured the conviction of the prime accused Ramalinga Raju and others.
