Gang nabbed trying to sell magical idol
HYDERABAD: Four persons, including a former jawan of the 125 Infantry Battalion, were held by the Hyderabad Task Force police while trying to sell the idol of a goddess along with a stone claiming that they had magical powers.
The four have been identified as B. Devendar, 40, a labourer, T. John, a businessman and former sepoy of 125 Infantry Battalion, Mohd Asraf, 23, a meat shop owner, and Prem Chand Gupta, 38, a businessman, all residents of the city. They were arrested from Jiyaguda area in Kulsumpura.
Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said, “The accused purchased the idol for `10 lakh in Andhra Pradesh. They wanted to sell it for `1 crore claiming that it was panchaloha idol with divine powers and would bring its buyers a fortune.”
The idol, a stone, and three phones were recovered from the accused and handed over at Kulsumpura police station for further investigation.
The accused persons had earlier approached two persons for selling the idol and the stone.
