Vijayawada: IAS duo shuns big fat wedding, sets example

Ghosh, a 2009 batch officer, hails from West Bengal and Ms Korlapati hails from Vijayawada and is a former collector of Udupi district.

Vijayawada: Eschewing ostentatious celebrations, Karnataka cadre IAS officers Ujjwal Ghosh and Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, who hails from Vijayawada, got married at the office of the registrar of marriages in Hubbali on Monday, family sources said.

Their parents, family members, senior officials and close friends were present at the simple ceremony to formalise their marriage.

Mr Ghosh, a 2009 batch officer, hails from West Bengal and is a computer science engineer who left a lucrative career to join the civil services. He has served as a collector in Uttara Kanara and Kalburagi (Gulbarga) districts.

Ms Korlapati hails from Vijayawada and is a former collector of Udupi district. A 2011 batch officer, she got the 20th rank in general merit in UPSC exam.

Ms Korlapati has worked as assistant commissioner at Bidar, municipal commissioner at Mangalore, zilla panchayat chief executive officer at Chamarajnagar and Kalburagi. She was awarded ‘Swachata Hi Sewa Award’ in October 2017 for leadership in the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission.

Ms Korlapati told this newspaper that she and her husband did not like to spend a large amount on their marriage. They wanted to lead a simple life, and started it with their marriage.

Her father Mr Korlapati Vijaya Kumar, chief Technical adviser to the AP Township And Infrastructure Development Corporation, expressed happiness over the simple marriage and said that family members, relatives and friends joined the ceremony.
